Manage accounting and finance operations for assigned projects.  Responsibilities include developing and tracking budgets, providing financial analysis and reports, and ensuring compliance with standard accounting standards and procedures, internal policies and external requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounting and finance functions for assigned projects.
    • Provide budgeting, financial tracking and fiscal control expertise.
    • Create financial proposals, business plans, and production budgets.
    • Ensure accuracy of financial data and compliance with accounting standards and procedures.
    • Work with project producer and production manager, create and monitor project budgets including direct and ancillary costs and services, forecast cash flow, and track expenditures and commitments on a timely basis using WETA standard formats.
    • Provide financial analysis and report regularly on the financial status of assigned projects for use by project team, WETA senior management and external clients. 
    • Perform regular, internal forecast reporting on project budget variances, cash flows, outstanding expenses and commitments. 
    • Regularly maintain financial databases of assigned projects, assuring the accuracy of information. Maintain financial transaction records and files.
    • Stay abreast of external reporting requirements.
    • Regularly provide reports to third party funding partners meeting specific grants and contract requirements and complies with WETA accounting and finance policies and program executives. 
    • Identify any significant issues that may affect the financial outcome of the assigned project.   Keep the project team apprised of variances and financial status and control issues.
  • Participate in the preparation of project proposals and business plans for television and new media projects at various phases to include research and development, funding strategies, production, post-production, delivery and after-broadcast sales of home video, ancillary products, foreign rights and alternate distribution. 
    • Assist in identifying revenue strategies for all types of projects.
    • Review and approve contracts, personnel actions and outside vendor transactions assuring compliance with internal and external policies, contracts and agreements, and ensure transactions are in accordance with budget and business plan assumptions of the project.
    • Analyze the efficiency of personnel, equipment and other resources used by the project and work with the project producer and production manager to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness where needed.
  • Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and general ledger procedures.
  • Ability to accurately complete all monthly & quarterly federal report requirements, in compliance with governing, award, & contractual mandates, including but not limited to, federal A133 audit requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile, analyze, and determine recommendations based on project data and information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to interact with a wide variety of people using diplomacy, tact and discretion
  • Must work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to successfully perform in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use computer technology to efficiently accomplish work, using Microsoft Office programs, email, Internet, and database management software.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, holidays, and weekends, as project schedule demands.

Education and Experience:

  • College degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field.  Graduate degree or CPA certification a plus.
  • Minimum five years of experience in project/financial management.  Experience working on national/network level television production a plus.
