Rick Schneider has been executive vice president and chief operating officer of WETA since 2013. He also serves as president of NewsHour Productions LLC, responsible for production of PBS NewsHour.
Schneider was president and chief executive officer of WPBT in Miami from 2004 to 2013. WPBT was the creator of Nightly Business Report, broadcast nationwide on public television stations. During his tenure, WPBT launched several new series including Changing Seas, Check Please! South Florida, Art Loft, and Wild Florida. Schneider also oversaw the creation of uVu, an online community video initiative.
Schneider is chair of the Public Television Major Market Group. He served on the Board of Directors of PBS, and has chaired the boards of Florida Public Broadcasting and the Pacific Mountain Network.
He was previously CEO of the PBS station in Reno, and news director and then station manager of WUFT-TV, where he was on the faculty of the University of Florida. His early career included positions as a reporter and anchor in Gainesville, West Palm Beach, and New York City, and as a Washington correspondent for Post-Newsweek Stations.
Schneider graduated from the University of Florida and has a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.
