More than travel adventure, this is a cultural exploration of the continent.
More than travel adventure, this is a cultural exploration of the continent.
On January 1, 2001, husband and wife Alexandre and Sonia Poussin set off on an extraordinary journey by foot: The Cape of Good Hope to Jerusalem.

Walking 8,700 miles and crossing through eleven countries, the two set off to discover a land few know and less understand-Africa.
For three years, Alex and Sonia faced the worst of the worst: fatigue, extreme thirst and blazing sun, torrential downpours, tsetse flies, hyenas prowling around their tents at night, malaria, raging fevers, and more.
But what they also discovered along the way was an incredibly generous Africa rich with heart, humor, and life. Hundreds of families welcomed them into their lives, from just a couple of hours to days. From a communal meal in the mountains of Lesotho, to a ritual dance with the Barbaigs, the Poussins saw a piece of the world few of us have ever seen before.
Africa Trek however is an endeavor much greater than the moral or physical feat of such a journey. They rediscover Africa, a place where time and culture are so different from our own. It's a tale of love and courage that took them from south to north along the spine of a dark continent, through the cradle of mankind.
Besides the images and encounters, Alex and Sonia offer us their voice. Though weary at times, they remain determined. A voice which enables us to hear the particular sound humans make when the walk, when they believe in their own courage and in the richness of the world.
In this 12 part series, we watch as Alex and Sonia take this momentous journey-as we become part of the journey ourselves.
