Cultural Partner Spotlight: A Concert of Kazakh Music

 

The Ministry of Culture of Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Kazakhstan, and the Kazakh American Association are bringing a group of native musicians to the United States.  First, at Carnegie Hall on June 30, then at the Kennedy Center (www.Kennedy-Center.org) on July 3, the Kazakh State Academic Kurmangazy Orchestra of Folk Instruments, the Kazakh State Baikadamov Chorale of the Kazakh Philharmonic, and award-winning soloists will present a concert titled Magic Songs of the Eternal Steppe.  Kazakh music, both traditional and classical, Kazakh opera, American works by Bernstein and Anderson, and even some Mozart are on the program.  Tokjan Balderston of the Kazakh American Association, and international artist Paul Emerson, founder of the dance troupe Company E, talk with Classical WETA’s Marilyn Cooley about Kazakh music, and the cultural and historical context of the music in the exhilarating and colorful concert, taking place at the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall on July 3rd.
