Arlington Sons

Classical WETA and VivaLaVoce.org honor Veterans’ Day with a performance of ARLINGTON SONS, an “operatic scene” composed by Scott Eyerly.  Arlington Sons was premiered in October, 2012 by Leonard Slatkin and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Bass-baritone David Pittsinger commissioned the piece and is the featured soloist along with his son, boy-soprano Richard Pittsinger.  The work was inspired by a family visit to Arlington Cemetery to watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns.  David’s father-- Richard’s grandfather-- had been a guard at the Tomb, and Arlington Sons celebrates his legacy.  Nicole Lacroix spoke to composer Scott Eyerly as well as the Pittsingers, father and son, about the evolution of this project.

Arlington Sons, will air at 11 AM on November 11th on VivalaVoce.org at the very hour when the President will lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.  Classical WETA will broadcast the piece at 8 PM, November 11th, following the PBS NewsHour.
