The City Choir of Washington presents Diamond Jubilee: A Coronation Anniversary Concert, featuring the premiere of Three Hymns of George Herbert and Tolstoy's Creed by the acclaimed composer Sir John Tavener. The program will also feature much of the music that was performed at Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 Coronation and the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. City Choir founder and Artistic Director Robert Shafer chats with Classical WETA's Nicole Lacroix about this major commission, Sir John Tavener as artist and visionary, and the glory of the British choral tradition recreated in great spaces of Washington National Cathedral. The audience is also invited to participate in a rousing chorus of Jerusalem and God Save the Queen. Diamond Jubilee: A Coronation Anniversary Concert is Sunday, April 21st at 4:00 pm at the National Cathedral. For more information visit Tickets.Cathedral.org.
