Left Bank Concert Society

performs at Dumbarton Concerts

November 29, 2010, 9:00 pm

Front Row Washington presents the Left Bank Concert Society in a Dumbarton Concerts recital called "Romantic Soul."  The program pays homage to two of the greatest spirits of the Romantic era, Johannes Brahms and Antonin Dvorak. The allure of Vienna and the urging of his dear friend Brahms were not enough to woo the Czech composer Dvorak from his beloved homeland again. Conversely, the music from the East proved irresistible to Brahms, whose compositions were frequently imbued with its exotic colors. The Left Bank Quartet performs Dvorák's Quartet in G Major and, joined by clarinetist Loren Kitt, Brahm's darkly-hued Quintet for an evening of golden autumnal glory.

Featured performances:

Antonin Dvorak:  Quartet in G Major, Op. 106 (1895)

David Salness, violin; Sally McLain, violin; Katherine Murdock, viola; Evelyn Elsing, cello

Johannes Brahms:   Clarinet Quintet in B Minor, Op. 115 (1891)
