In keeping with their long association with Vermont’s Marlboro Music Festival, the Smithsonian’s Freer Gallery of Art hosted the Musicians from Marlboro for the second of 3 concerts, February 19, 2009. Peter Stumpf, principal cellist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, teamed up with young violinists, violists and a clarinetist for a delightful chamber music presentation including the folk-inspired Kodaly Duo for Violin and Cello, Haydn’s elegant E-flat String Quartet and Brahms’ autumnal Clarinet Quintet
Featured performances:
Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 64, No. 6
Zoltán Kodály: Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7 (1914)
Johannes Brahms: Clarinet Quintet in B Minor, Op. 115 (1891)
