Wagner from the source, in the very theater the composer designed for his music dramas: the Bayreuth Festival is unique in the world and continues to fascinate.
Ever since the first such festival in 1876, Richard Wagner and his descendents have been artistically in charge. In the opening to the 104th Bayreuth Festival in July 25, 2015, festival director Katharina staged Richard Wagner's love epic "Tristan and Isolde." The musical side of the equation was in the competent hands of Christian Thielemann, who since his Bayreuth debut in 2000, has led hundreds of performances from the orchestra pit of the Bayreuth Festspielhaus and was named the festival 's music director in 2015.
