Senator Orrin Hatch

Senator Orrin Hatch has represented the state of Utah in the U.S. Senate since 1977. He is the eighth-most senior member of the U.S. Senate, and the fourth-most senior Republican.

Senator Hatch is married to Elaine Hansen Hatch and has six children and 23 grandchildren. He has long had a passion for music, and plays the piano, organ, and violin.

This month, Classical WETA 90.9 FM talked with Senator Hatch about classical music, his likes and interests, and how he divides his time between Washington, D.C. and Utah.

Which is your favorite local museum?
Holocaust Museum

Where do you like to go on your day off?
In Utah, a visit to Elaine’s mother in Northern Utah. In DC, any historical site.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Elaine’s chip chocolate pies

Which three people would you most like to have dinner with?
My wife, my son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in Washington

What is your favorite sports team?
My grandson's basketball team

What is your favorite local arts venue?
The Visitor Center at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Silver Spring MD.

What is one thing you'd like everyone to know about your home state?
Utah has the highest concentration in America of native English-speakers who are fluent in a second language.
