Senator Richard Lugar

A fifth generation Hoosier, Senator Richard Lugar has represented the state of Indiana in the U.S. Senate since 1976, making him the longest serving U.S. Senator in Indiana history.

He is the Republican leader of the Foreign Relations Committee and a member and former chairman of the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. While attending Denison University, the Senator and his wife Charlene both played cello in the university orchestra.

This month, Classical WETA 90.9 FM talked with Senator Lugar about classical music, his likes and interests, and how he divides his time between Washington, D.C. and Indiana.

What is your favorite classical music piece?

Where do you like to go on your day off?
My 604-acre Marion County, Indiana, corn, soybean and tree farm.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Listening to classical music on WETA while commuting in my Prius.

Which three people would you most like to have dinner with?
My wife Char, my brother Tom and my sister Ann.

What is your favorite sports team?
Indianapolis Indians in the summer, Indianapolis Colts in the fall and the Indiana Pacers in the winter.

What is your favorite local arts venue?
The Folger

What is one thing you'd like everyone to know about your home state?
Indiana is a great place to invest, particularly in biofuels and the health sciences.
