"Faces of America" Teacher Training

Educators are invited to join WETA TV 26, Thirteen (New York public broadcasting), and the National Museum of American History on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the museum for a free teacher training workshop.

Faces of America - Henry Louis Gates Jr and Meryl Streep - 480x360

The workshop will introduce the new family history series Faces of America With Henry Louis Gates Jr., which premieres on public television stations nationwide on February 10. In the series, Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. turns to the latest tools of genealogy and genetics to explore the family histories of 12 renowned Americans.

Participants will view clips from the series, tour the project website, engage in a multimedia lesson plan demonstration, receive project resources, and more. The keynote speaker for the training is author Adele Logan Alexander (the mother of one of the featured celebrities in the series, poet Elizabeth Alexander). Ms. Alexander's books include Homelands and Waterways, Ambiguous Lives: Free Women of Color in Rural Georgia and Parallel Worlds.
