Moderated by Karen Bradley
UM Department of Dance
The signature work of German choreographer Kurt Jooss (1901-1979), “The Green Table,” is examined in this special viewing and discussion. Created in 1932 with music by Fritz Cohen, this work was both a comment on the times and an enduring reflection on war and death. UM Dance scholar Karen Bradley leads a lively discussion with other experts considering the historical context and current reverberations. This event is offered as part of the Clarice Smith Center’s fall “Art Responds to War” programming, which complements the University of Maryland’s “Semester on War and the Representation of War,” organized by the UM College of Arts and Humanities and the UM College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.
This is a free event.
