In this distinctive new production, celebrated choreographer and tap dancer Savion Glover honors his art form with a Hoofer’s meditation on the art of tap. This production honors dance legends like Sammy Davis Jr., Jimmy Slyde, and his teacher and mentor, Gregory Hines. The New York Times describes this reverent performance as “barebones and pure, full of the kind of rhythmic innovation that trips down one path, splinters off in different directions, and then sweeps back home.” For the past 25 years, this nonpareil of the popular dance world has dedicated his career to restoring the African roots to the art of tap. With a string of Broadway hits such as the Tony Award-winning Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk and Jelly’s Last Jam to his appearances in Spike Lee’s Bamboozled and the Academy Award-winning animated film, Happy Feet, Savion Glover has become a contemporary legend in the dance community. The New York Times has dubbed him “a peerless dynamo of rhythmic tap dance” because of his thundering footwork and unmatched technique.
