The PEN/Malamud Award honors excellence in the art of the short story. James Salter, the 2012 recipient, is a gifted short story writer who ended his career in the Air Force after publishing his first novel The Hunters, based on more than 100 combat missions in Korea. Publishers Weekly deemed him “the author of some of the most esteemed fiction of the past three decades.” Salter will read from his work. Reception and book signing to follow.
