Violinist Sally McLain and pianist Lisa Emenheiser perform works by Ezra Laderman, Harold Meltzer, Dina Koston, and John Adams. Each composition on this FREE program is a McKim Fund commissioned work. Since it was established at the Library of Congress in 1970, the McKim Fund endowment has commissioned more than 60 works for violin and piano.
Ezra Laderman’s Duo for Violin and Piano (1970) was commissioned in the first year of the McKim Fund, and was premiered in May 1971 by Jaime and Ruth Laredo at the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library of Congress.
Harold Meltzer’s Kreisleriana (2012), one of the most recent McKim Fund Commissions, was premiered in February 2012 by Miranda Cuckson and Blair McMillen at the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library of Congress.
Dina Koston’s Duo in Two Parts (1997-99), was premiered in March 2000 by Rolf Schulte and Alan Feinberg, again at the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library of Congress.
John Adams’ Road Movies (1995) was premiered in October 1995 by Robin Lorentz and Vicky Ray at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
