Wanderlust Theater Lab is producing Tom Block's Butterfly. Butterfly explores the final day of a self-appointed prophet, Todd (half-Black and half-Jewish), a once promising professional baseball player who answered a call to prophecy fifteen years before. The play takes place in a suburban Washington D.C. living room, with his acolyte Jan (a Serbian refugee); a therapist; a medieval Muslim mystic (Ibn Sina) returned from the dead; the bubbly Martini; his mother and his invisible father, who is interred in a mental asylum in Poughkeepsie, NY. This will be its world premier production. The play will be accompanied by an original score written and performed by cellist Desiree Miller. The work will also feature a series of paintings from Mr. Block’s In the Garden of the Mystical Redoubt series, which visually represent the psychic experience of the characters, as they either succumb to or reject the teachings of the self-appointed spiritual leader. Block's first play, White Noise, will be produced as a "Resident Theater Company Production" at Theater for the New City in the East Village, New York in 2013.
Event begins at 2:00PM
