Deutsch am Mittag (German at noon)

Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Join us for monthly lunchtime gatherings of those interested in hearing and speaking German. Each month, a special guest speaks on a topic. Participants can bring their lunch and join in the ensuing conversation.
Christian Kohlross, Professor of German, University of Virginia, will speak on the topic Die Zukunft des Deutschen in den USA. Eine Bestandsaufnahme.
“In the US German is on the defensive”, The New York Times wrote a couple of months ago. Why is that? And what can be done about it, especially by institutions like German departments and centers for German Studies, for which the survival of the German language and culture is crucial? These are the initial questions for a lunch colloquium with Christian Kohlross on the future of German and German culture in the US.
Tickets are $5. Beverages and sweets are provided. To ensure an accurate count, RSVP to rsvp@washington.goethe.org.

Event begins at 12:00PM
