Frederick Airport invites women who have not yet experienced flight in a small aircraft to take their first flight March 4-10, 2013. A special marathon event will be held on March 9th “Pink – Women Fly It Forward,” introducing women patients and survivors of breast cancer to general aviation. They are invited to bring a female friend or family member to join them for their free flight. We will welcome NASA Astronaut Pam Melroy, one of two women who commanded the space shuttle. Also Dr. Mamta Nagaraja, project manager of the Women@NASA program. Current sponsors of Women Fly it Forward are Giant, Frederick County Bank, AOPA and Aviation Insurance Resources. With the help of additional sponsors Women Fly It Forward hopes to have the Traveling Space Museum at the event. In 2011, Frederick Airport earned the honor of being the “Most Female Pilot Friendly Airport Worldwide” after providing flights for 185 women and girls. In 2012 it won the title ‘Most Female Pilot Friendly Airport in the United States’ after giving flights to 244 women. The airport plans to give free flights to even more women in 2013.
