Poet Lore, America’s oldest poetry journal (www.poetlore.com), will celebrate its 124th birthday at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, MD, on Sunday, April 7, 2:00 PM, with a reading by former poet laureate of Brooklyn D. Nurkse and local poet Teri Ellen Cross. Executive editors Ethelbert Miller and Jody Bolz will introduce the poets, and a birthday-cake-and-champagne reception and D. Nurkse’s book signing will follow the reading. The event is free and open to the public.
D. NURKSE is the author of ten books of poetry, most recently A Night in Brooklyn (Knopf, 2012). His recent prizes include a Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a Guggenheim Fellowship. A former poet laureate of Brooklyn, he has also written widely on human rights.
TERI ELLEN CROSS was a Ford Foundation and Cave Canem fellow. She is the Poetry and Lectures Coordinator at the Folger Shakespeare Library and was a producer with WAMU’s The Kojo Nnamdi Show.
