The Columbia Pro Cantare chorus, under the direction of Frances Motyca Dawson, will be joined for the performance by classical guitarist Magdalena Duhagon, soprano Laura Whittenberger, pianist Alison Gatwood, and a brass ensemble led by Jared Denhard. Advance tickets are $23 and $20; $2 more at door. Discounted group rates available.
The concert will include both traditional songs and classical works that demonstrate the rich contributions of Spain and Latin America to the vocal and instrumental repertoire. Ms. Duhagon will accompany the CPC chorus in Romancero Gitano by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The piece is based on poems by Federico Garcia Lorca. The CPC Chamber Singers will perform a series of songs with Catalonian, Basque, and Venezuelan origins. Soprano Whittenberger and the CPC men will be featured in El cant dels ocells (“The song of the birds”). Alison Gatwood will perform the piano classic, Malagueña by Ernesto Lecuona. The brass ensemble will play selections of Piazzola among others.
There will be a pre-concert lecture at 7:00 pm by musicologist Barbara Renton, Ph.D., and a free reception will follow the performance.
Event begins at 8:00PM
