Columbia Pro Cantare will open its 37th season with "Choral Postcards from Europe," a concert of smaller choral works by great composers. The chorus, under the direction of Frances Motyca Dawson, will be joined for this concert by soprano Laura Whittenberger, tenor James Farlow, pianists Erik Apland and Alison Gatwood, and the CPC Festival Orchestra. Works will include Brahms, Liebeslieder Waltzes; J.S. Bach, Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden; Mozart, Regina Coeli in B; Verdi, Ave Maria from Quattro pezzi sacri; Britten, A Birthday Hansel; and Strauss, Four Songs, Opus 17 for harp and two horns. An informal lecture by musicologist Barbara Renton will begin at 7 pm, and there is a complementary post-concert reception.
