As part of the Yeskel Memorial Concert Series, 2013 Grammy nominee, writer, and scholar Stephen Wade, accompanied by veteran multi-instrumentalist Zan McLeod, will present a concert performance of The Beautiful Music All Around Us; a combination of live music, projected images, and spoken narrative that traces Wade's journey into musical traditions across the American South. Wade's remarkable research that culminated recently in his award winning book, The Beautiful Music All Around Us: Field Recordings and the American Experience (University of Illinois Press), rediscovers the largely unknown players and singers whose performances of traditional songs were captured on early Library of Congress field recordings. His stories of folk tunes, their creators, and the communities from which they spring, speak to the interconnectedness of American lives.
