Opposites Attract – an exhibit by pen and ink artist Bob Friedenberg and abstract painter Kay Layne
In February, Arts in the Village Gallery presents Opposites Attract, the February Featured Artist Exhibit showcasing the captivating pen and ink drawings of Bob Friedenberg, and expansive abstract paintings by Kay Layne, in an exciting combined show of diverse mediums and styles.
Bob Friedenberg’s black and white ink drawings depict a wide range of subject matter from jungle scenes to space travel. Using a technical pen, Bob creates detailed imaginative worlds, where shapes are filled with symbols, words and equations to create depth and texture. Interesting mechanisms, vehicles, buildings and animals are everywhere - - and the more you look, the more your see.
In contrast, Kay Layne’s warm toned abstract paintings are expansive and reminiscent of the open spaces of the Texas panhandle where she grew up. Richly textured color field works are designed to allow each viewer to provide the interpretation based on their unique perspective. Kay’s use of color, open space, and geometric elements create a compelling environment where viewers are encouraged to come in, and stay awhile.
Meet the artists and enjoy a glass of wine and small fare during a free, open to the public reception on Saturday, February 15th, from 4 – 7 p.m.
