Selected as the winner of the Target Gallery’s annual Open Exhibition competition, North Carolina-based painter Steven Walls shows nine paintings in his solo exhibition, Transient States. Walls’ large-scale figurative paintings depict the states between visual perception, memory, waking life and dreams.
"The most effective way to remember a dream is to immediately recall it upon waking and write it down or describe it to another person," said Walls. "Only then does its content become encoded in memory. With my work I examine the transient states between visual perception, memory, waking life and dream and attempt to describe them for the viewer."
Transient States runs Saturday, July 19 through Sunday, August 31. The public reception will be Second Thursday, August 14 from 6 – 8 pm, with a curatorial presentation with Walls at 7 pm. The Target Gallery is open daily from 10 – 6 pm and until 9 pm on Thursdays.
