On Sunday, May 31, two historic markers were unveiled that honor the lifetime achievements of Elizabeth and Edmund Campbell, distinguished Arlingtonians who devoted their lives to education and justice. Mrs. Campbell founded public broadcaster WETA and was the first woman elected to a school board in the history of Virginia. Mr. Campbell was a pioneering civic leader, with a pivotal role in ending legally enforced racial segregation in Virginia’s public schools. The event took place on the plaza in front of the Shirlington Library and Signature Theatre.
