George Cassiday: Bootlegger to Congress

George Cassiday was arrested for bootlegging to members of Congress and wrote a series of tell-all articles about his business in the Washington Post in 1930.

Garrett Peck and Fred Cassiday tell the story of Fred's father, George, who worked as a bootlegger to Congress from 1920-1930. George Cassiday lived in Washington, D.C. and actually had an office in the House office building. He supplied both "wet" and "dry" Congressmen before being arrested in 1930 and writing a tell-all expose for the Washington Post, which helped turn public opinion against the Dry cause.
