On Sunday, 1 December 2013, 3:30 pm at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Rd, Vienna, Va 22182 The Advent Project is performing the Magnificat, BWV 243 of Johann Sebastian Bach with soloists Kimberly Christie, soprano; Amy K. Sullivan, mezzo-soprano; Diana Cantrelle, contralto; Jason Rylander, tenor; Jason Buckwalter, baritone; and William Heim, bass-baritone, along with the chorus and orchestra of The Advent Project, Richard Allen Roe, conductor.
Admission is free.
The performance will be the first of our "Conversation Concerts." Following the manner of the "Young People's Concerts" made famous by the New York Philharmonic and Leonard Bernstein, as well as the "Gesprächs-Konzert" format of Helmuth Rilling and the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart and the Oregon Bach Festival, the historical, musical and theological context of the work will be examined and presented, illustrated with live excerpts by the soloists, chorus and orchestra of The Advent Project and their conductor, Richard Allen Roe. A complete performance follows this in-depth look at Bach's approach to this wonderful text, and how valuable this music can be to us in the 21st Century.
