An Irish Céilí: Irish Music and Culture—Past to Modern

Enjoy an old-fashioned Irish céilí—which is a “social evening” —complete with music, dancing, singing and storytelling from Old Ireland to the modern day. Síor-Óg will perform the magical music of O’Carolan and the old masters; Shepherd’s Pie Céilí Band will fill the hall with joyful dance music; the incomparable Shannon Dunne will delight with Sean-nós (old-style) dancing, while champion step dancers from the Aoibhneas an Rince School of Irish Dance will perform some dazzling modern dances; the Tuesday Night Céilí Club, under the leadership of Hugh Conway, will demonstrate modern social dancing and invite the audience to get their very own trotters shaking; Beth Benedetto, award-winning sean-nós singer, will sing in the Irish language; and members of Síor-Óg and Shepherd’s Pie will perform some lovely songs. And, last but in no way least, Penelope Fleming, a spellbinding storyteller and a member of Voices in the Glen, will take the audience under her thrall with stories of old and modern Ireland.
The price for admission is $10 at the door. Children 11 and under are admitted free.
