Discovery and Recovery: Preserving the Iraqi Jewish Heritage

This month, the National Archives unveils a new exhibition that details the recovery and preservation of historic materials relating to the Jewish community in Iraq discovered in 2003 in a flooded basement in Saddam Hussein’s intelligence headquarters. Tonight, a panel of experts including Director of Preservation Programs Doris Hamburg and Conservation Chief MaryLynn Ritzenthaler from the National Archives, will chronicle the dramatic story behind the exhibit, as well as discuss the historic significance of the items saved.
